To help African unemployed people, especially refugees, access job training and work experience. Offer free legal advice to African people on immigration, tenancy agreements, welfare and money issues. Visiting clients in hospital and at their homes, offering domiciliary care, cooking hot culturally appropriate meals, tidying up and helping those who are housebound with shopping.

  • Chinese National Healthy Living Centre: 0845 6016030, www.cnhlc.org.uk, email general@cnhlc.org.uk - Telephone and other support services for the Chinese community. Multilingual health helpline offers advice and signposting on range of issues.

  • India Welfare Society: 020 8969 9493, www.indiawelfaresociety.org, email iwslondon@hotmail.com - To attend to the welfare of people in the UK, particularly members of the Indian community who are in need, hardship or distress. Counselling service to resolve family and other problems.

  • Jewish Community Information: 020 7543 5421, email jci@bod.org.uk - Helpline service providing information about all aspects of Jewish life in UK. Information on social and welfare issues, residential and day care services, local synagogues, education, cultural issues, lifestyle, leisure.

  • Kurdish Cultural Centre: 020 7735 0918, , email admin@kcclondon.org, www.kcclondon.org - To assist and advise the Kurdish community in matters relating to education, health, immigration, integration, legal, housing, social activities and welfare, social and cultural activities.

  • Miyad – National Jewish Crisis Helpline: 0800 652 9249, www.jmc-uk.org - Helpline for anyone from the Jewish community who is in need or distress. Listening and support on issues including suicide, mental illness, loneliness or any other area of concern.

    Muslim Women’s Helpline: 020 8904 8193/8908 6715, www.mwhl.org - Telephone listening and information providing emotional and culturally appropriate support for Muslim women on a wide range of issues including sexual abuse, relationships, mental health, bereavement, health, domestic violence. Occasional face to face work where needed and referrals to specialist agencies.

  • Muslim Youth Helpline: 0808 808 2008, email help@myh.org.uk, www.myh.org.uk - Support to Muslim youth under 25 years. Outreach services including family mediation, face to face counselling and befriending. Serves London area.

  • The Survivors Network: 01332 604098 – Pilot project supporting South Asian women and children in relation to issues of domestic violence, honour based crimes, forced marriages, disownment of women by families etc. Also help and support for Asian men.

  • Union of Muslim Organisations of UK and Eire: 020 7221 6608 - To co-ordinate the activities of Muslim organisations and to provide for the religious and cultural needs of Muslim communities in the UK and Eire. Provides a marriage counselling service.

  • West Indian Standing Conference: 020 7928 7861 - To be a representative body for West Indians in Britain and to provide general information, legal and counselling services, social welfare issues. Youth section addresses some of the basic problems of young black people.
